Drill Press Mortise Attachment
Mortice and tenons are one of the most common joinery methods for timber and have been used in woodwork for centuries. This kit adapts your drill press to hold mortising chisels, allowing you to cut square mortices quickly and easily. The auger bit in the mortice chisel is positioned just below the tips of the chisel edge, removing the bulk of the waste. The square corners of the chisel then remove the remaining timber as you lower your drill, creating a square hole. To provide safety and accuracy, the mortice kit comes with a clamping mechanism to securely hold the workpiece through the drilling process.
This kit is supplied with a series of shims to suit the following quill sizes: 40, 48, 55, 60 and 66mm. This covers many benchtop and pedestal drills on the market.
Chisels are NOT included, but are available as optional extras
- Create mortise and tenon joinery easily
- Use your drill press to drill square holes!
- Kit will suit many benchtop and pedestal drill presses
Made from Cast Iron and Steel. Weight 6.5kg.
NOTE: Warranty does not cover breakage of cast iron collar due to over tightening. Ensure you are using the correct shim and tighten only enough to secure the jig. Note - not suitable for working with hardwoods due to the mechanical force required. This task is more suited to a dedicated Mortising Machine.
